Open sections

Fintraffic’s Road Traffic Management open section technology can be found on 1,400 kilometres of roads, where the safety and flow of traffic is ensured with the interaction of more than 3,000 different devices even today. The open section service is responsible for the functionality of the traffic management system (changing signage and boom barriers). We ensure that the implementation of the whole traffic management system from planning to maintenance is fully customer-oriented. The planning is based on cost-efficiency throughout the life cycle, which is supported throughout the agreement period.

Comprehensive planning

The service begins with the planning and surveying phase, which involves the implementation plan with its preliminary surveys and service level requirements. The roles and responsibilities of the planning and surveying phase are always agreed on a project-specific basis to ensure as smooth services as possible.

In the planning phase, we take full responsibility over the implementation planning of the open section traffic management system’s centralised information systems, data communications and data privacy, in which we ensure that the requested technical solutions are as cost-efficient as possible in terms of life-cycle costs, comply with provisions and requirements and fulfil all of the required safety and usability requirements.

The planning phase always takes into consideration the needs and aspects of operations and we also provide a data communications platform for other equipment and services on the section (including, for example, road weather and TMS stations and road condition cameras).

In addition to planning, we are also responsible for the duties related to the implementation and deployment of systems on a project-specific basis.

We provide, for example:

  • tendering and procurement documentation
  • construction control and construction services
  • inspection and testing of different devices
  • fault modelling and guidelines
  • maintenance logs and programmes
  • user and maintenance training

Continuous maintenance and development

Our maintenance agreement covers the traffic management system of a continuous open road section and the maintenance of the related operating/support systems and data communications throughout the life cycles of the systems. Our maintenance services are responsible for the maintenance on-call services for faults and accidents, the inspection and maintenance of maintenance programmes and the development of equipment technology throughout the life cycle.

Expert roles

We provide extensive, diverse open section expert services with the content and extent determined according to your needs on a role- or project-specific basis.
