The Act on Digital Information Services in the Transport System was ratified last Friday. The Act, effective from 2026, increases Fintraffic’s responsibilities, further focussing its role in controlling traffic data across Finland.

Demand for digital transport services on the rise – Fintraffic Mobile crosses the 100,000-download mark

In the third quarter, the use of Fintraffic digital services grew by more than 60%, and the Fintraffic Mobile application crossed the 100,000-download mark. The application brings up-to-date traffic information directly to the user’s phone. There was a moderate increase in the volume of passenger rail traffic and a decrease in freight traffic. The winter forecast for seasonal traffic in Lapland is positive, and air traffic is expected to continue its growth.

Fintraffic’s Air Navigation Services’ Flight Planning Centre (FPC) was established 15 years ago. Its purpose was to centralise support for air navigation services nationally at a single location. The Flan Planning Centre is a unique entity in Finland, and there is no equivalent anywhere in Europe. To celebrate the FPC’s anniversary, we are taking a look at how centralised flight planning services have been built over the years up to today.

Further improvements to Vuosaari tunnel alternative route ready: route tests to take place from 6 to 9 October

Further improvements to the alternative route of the Vuosaari road tunnel will be ready by 5 October. Next, functionality tests of the alternative route will take place between 6 and 9 October. During the testing, the tunnel will be closed, and traffic will be directed to the improved alternative route.
