As the autumn hunting season, the elk’s mating season and their migration to winter pastures begin, this will yet again result in unwanted elk encounters on our roads. Fintraffic’s Road Traffic Centre reminds drivers to maintain their vigilance, especially in morning and evening traffic and elk hazard areas: Drivers should maintain moderate driving speeds and long safety distances and keep their eyes on the road.

On 6 January 2026, a significant renovation will begin in the Vuosaari Tunnel, forcing the tunnel to close for about one year. During the renovation, traffic is rerouted to the official alternate route through Itäväylä–Kallvikintie–Niinisaarentie–Satamakaari–Vuosaari harbour. To ensure optimal traffic flow, the alternate route has undergone significant testing and improvement over the past year. Observations over this summer show that changes made to the route had already had a positive effect, despite some need for improvement. Further improvements have been planned for the alternate route as early as this autumn.

Amendments to the Aviation Act will enter into force on 1 September 2025, also affecting the permission process for obstacles to air navigation.

Installation work will take place in the Kuparivuori tunnel in Naantali (road 189) from 1 to 12 September 2025, which will require a full closure of the tunnel.

Autumn is approaching and Finns are gradually returning to everyday life. The end of the summer holiday season is also reflected in traffic: boats pulled ashore, holiday home items and other trailer loads are being transported by road after the summer. Preparations for renovating the Vuosaari road tunnel begin outside at the Harbour end of the tunnel in week 34.  The work area is expanded in week 35 to include the Satamakaari ramp. One of the lanes away from Vuosaari Harbour is closed.

The autumn school semester will soon bring a large number of new people to traffic, as first-graders start going to school. Fintraffic and the Finnish Road Safety Council want to remind everyone of the importance of safety on the way to school. As schoolchildren fill the streets, it is important for drivers to pay even more attention to traffic rules and observing their environment. Parents are responsible for teaching their children how to stay safe on the way to school and back.
