The objectives of Fintraffic’s Air Navigation Services for 2026 focus on legal compliance, digitalisation of aviation, and promoting staff well-being and competencies.

Fintraffic's Air Navigation Services aims to continuously improve the flow and predictability of its services with customers in mind. For this reason, the customer satisfaction survey, which was carried out in a similar way for years, has undergone a complete overhaul this year.

Fintraffic’s Air Navigation Services’ Flight Planning Centre (FPC) was established 15 years ago. Its purpose was to centralise support for air navigation services nationally at a single location. The Flan Planning Centre is a unique entity in Finland, and there is no equivalent anywhere in Europe. To celebrate the FPC’s anniversary, we are taking a look at how centralised flight planning services have been built over the years up to today.

Amendments to the Aviation Act will enter into force on 1 September 2025, also affecting the permission process for obstacles to air navigation.

Demand for flight route services increased in 2024, even though air traffic in Finland recovered more slowly than in the rest of Europe. Air navigation services were provided for nearly 242,000 flights in area control and for over 153,000 take-offs and landings at Helsinki Airport. The number of overflights through Finnish airspace increased by more than 65,000 flights.

The Finnish aviation community is seeking shared solutions and coordinated measures to reduce unruly behaviour. In May, just before the busiest flight season, the community launches a joint campaign titled “Put yourself in flight mode”.

The National Traffic Information Database combines data from over 300 sources into a common public transport database. “In the past, creation of mobility services used to require a software project; today, the same can be achieved by subscribing to a single interface.”

Härmän Liikenne aims for the best customer service in the region. As part of this effort, the 60-year-old bus company, with a fleet of over 100 buses, uses bus stop displays of the matka.fi service for impactful service.

Fintraffic studied the value of the traffic data economy with consultancy firm FLOU in December 2024. According to the study, the value of the traffic data economy in Finland has increased to EUR 500 million, more than EUR 50 million of which is produced by Fintraffic alone (+35% since 2022).

The police and Fintraffic work closely together to ensure smooth and safe traffic, especially in exceptional situations.
