Flyby Guys use Fintraffic Sky in their daily operations: “Helps raise awareness, makes operations more efficient and supports safety in the sky”

Flyby Guys is a Finland-based company operating in drone-based aerial data capture. Their experience has gone from telecom and utility inspections to drone delivery projects, and their world-famous drone lights shows, which they operate around the globe. With seven years and thousands of operations, how do Flyby Guys utilize Fintraffic Sky in their daily work? What features do they especially appreciate in making operations more efficient?

Flyby Guys provide drone data capture services that can be utilized for mapping, surveying, monitoring, and inspection purposes, providing businesses with valuable insights to make informed decisions.

- With advanced drone technology, skilled pilots and leveraging AI, we can efficiently capture data from difficult-to-reach locations, saving time and resources while reducing safety risks. We use Fintraffic Sky to check no-fly zones and announce when we fly, says Stephen Sutton, CEO of Flyby Guys and consultant to the drone industry.

Fintraffic Sky allows drone pilots to digitally notify air traffic control where and when they intend to operate. It also provides information on any restrictions on height and operating times affecting the flight. The service also tells pilots when permission is required to fly.

Supporting safety and smoother operations with Fintraffic Sky

A crucial part of keeping drone operations safe is being informed about other air traffic. Fintraffic Sky gathers key aviation information in one place in real time and offers the opportunity to make flight plans in a convenient online service.

- When it comes to aerial safety, seeing other drones and planes is very important. We need to know what’s in the sky with us and for example when we need to make way for rescue authorities. Fintraffic Sky helps us inform others about where we’re flying and monitor other air traffic during our operations, tells Sutton.

Flyby Guys’ operations often involve flying the same route multiple times. That’s why they appreciate the possibility to save flight zones in Fintraffic Sky.

- Our operations often include drones flying the same routes 1-2 times per week. Recently we had an operation where we had six drones flying every day for one week. The possibility to save flight zones in Fintraffic Sky helps make our operations more efficient, since we don’t need to fill in the flight information from scratch every time we report a flight plan, Sutton continues.

Fintraffic Sky helps raise awareness about drone operations

Sutton tells that in addition to helping make drone operations more efficient, Fintraffic Sky is a great help in raising awareness about drones and what they are used for. Drones are still often viewed as suspicious by the public, when they are in fact used for useful purposes to help the public and companies.

- The vast majority of drone flights in Finland are legal, safe, and conducted within regulations. Fintraffic Sky is open for everyone, which helps communicate openly to the public about where drones fly and why. There’s a lot of drones flying and it’s important to get as many drone

operators as possible to use Fintraffic Sky. This way we can get the best overview of what’s happening in the sky. Finland has the opportunity to set an example internationally in how it integrates drones into everyday life. Services like Fintraffic Sky help support this opportunity, Sutton says.
