The extensive renovation of the Vuosaari tunnel began three weeks ago, on 6 January. Take a look at the progress of the tunnel renovation and traffic flow on the detour and read about the new traffic arrangements on Ring Road III during construction.

A harmonised operating model is being developed for Finnish coastal merchant fairways, further securing the flow of special transports with safety zones. The new safety zones will be introduced at the beginning of January for designated Tornio and HaminaKotka fairways used by LNG tankers.

The Vuosaari tunnel will be closed at the beginning of next year for extensive renovations, with traffic diverted to the official substitute route.  Multiple sections of the substitute route have been upgraded over the past year, and the currently tested substitute route is ready for diverted tunnel traffic next year. The Port of Kokkola is a long-term user of Fintraffic’s D/S POLO service, which handles pier planning, crane reservations, and service orders, among others. Now, the service expands to rail planning, ensuring safe and smooth shunting on the private track and rail capacity management.

The official alternative route for the Vuosaari road tunnel was tested between 16 and 18 June.
