International air and freight traffic continued to grow
Freight traffic volumes continued to grow in July-September, especially in rail traffic.
Improvement work on the alternative route of the Vuosaari road tunnel begins on 14 October
The alternative route for Vuosaari road tunnel on the section Itäväylä–Kallvikintie–Niinisaarentie–Vuosaari Harbour will be improved during late 2024 and spring 2025. Roadworks on the alternative route begin on Monday, 14 October 2024. By improving the route, we are preparing for the extensive renovation of the Vuosaari tunnel’s technical features, which begins next year and will last for nearly one year, during which time the alternative route of the tunnel will serve as a detour.
Electric scooters now included in the opas.matka.fi journey planner
Electric scooters can now be found in the opas.matka.fi journey planner. In the early stages, users can search for scooters on routes in the HSL area for those operators that have provided scooter location and reservation information for journey planners. As safety is top priority for Fintraffic, we would like to remind you of the importance of observing traffic rules. Fintraffic publication selected as best of the year at ITS World Congress
On 20 September, the ITS World Congress, a major event for intelligent transportation systems, presented an award to Fintraffic’s Road Traffic Management for the best technical publication of 2024. The award-winning publication highlights the importance of a data-driven and ecosystemic approach to improving traffic safety and flow. The publication presents the use cases implemented by Fintraffic. Fintraffic is very visible at the world's leading ITS event, as the company's experts give as many as seven expert speeches on different themes at the event.
Fintraffic is preparing for the implementation of the new CSRD directive: “A significant benefit for both our operations and our sustainability work”
The new Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) of the European Union, which entered into force last September, sets increasingly stringent requirements for corporate sustainability reporting. This is also reflected in Fintraffic’s operations, where collection of data in accordance with the new requirements will commence in 2025. The first CSRD-compliant report is due to be published the following year.

The Destia Winter Maintenance Management Centre utilises the road weather information provided by Fintraffic on a daily basis, all year round. Fintraffic road weather data makes it possible to carry out maintenance measures in the road network in a timely manner. This helps to save costs.

Finnish businesses launch collaboration for exporting traffic data services
The Traffic Data Service Cluster, led by Fintraffic, was officially launched at the end of May. It includes several of Finland's top experts in the realm of traffic data services, who believe that in current times, collaboration brings better results when exporting internationally. Several doors have already been opened in Europe, but also in Asia, the Middle-East and in the United States, particularly with regards to participating in rail traffic and port digitalisation projects as well as smart road projects. Experience gained in the spring confirms that there is a demand for Finnish traffic data experts.
Vuosaari road tunnel repairs to begin in spring 2025 - planning progressing on schedule
The schedule and method of implementation for the renewal of technical systems in the Vuosaari road tunnel have been established: work in the tunnel will begin with the dismantling of old systems in spring 2025.
The first supplier for Digirail has been selected – Creating a foundation for the future of the entire railway system
The current system protecting the passage of trains is nearing the end of its life cycle, and the plan in the Digirail project is to renew the system on the entire Finnish railway network. Fintraffic Railway Ltd. and Siemens Mobility have signed contract on supplying a Centralised Safety System on Digirail’s first commercial track section on the Lielahti-Rauma/Pori track line. Thanks to the agreement, Digirail will now be moving towards concreteness.
