NELSON Involved in EMSA’s Ship Reporting Portal Tests across Europe

1.9.2026
As part of the NELSON project, the functionality of a ship reporting portal developed by the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) over several years was put to the test in Europe-wide operational trials. The tests support NELSON’s work to integrate EMSA’s Integrated Reports Distribution (IRD) platform into national reporting systems in Finland and Sweden—and thereby advancing the digitalisation of maritime reporting.

Fintraffic’s Traffic Vision describes the transport system in 2040

31.8.2026
By 2040, the Finnish transport system will have been shaped by a number of major drivers: climate change, uncertainty in the security environment, technological advancement, transport regulation and the changing needs of mobility and logistics. These changes will increase the need to develop the transport system as a whole, more proactively and with a higher impact. Fintraffic’s Traffic Vision describes developments in Finland's transport system until 2040 and highlights the importance of an intelligent transport system for Finland’s competitiveness, reliability of society and smooth everyday life.

Traffic Management Company Fintraffic Ltd’s half-year report

31.8.2026
During the first six months of this year, Fintraffic’s traffic management has operated safely and in line with the objectives for all modes of transport. This has been highly important for the whole of Finland as our airspace and maritime areas have had to be closed due to ongoing military operations nearby. Meanwhile, we have driven reforms that strengthen the reliability, continuity and efficiency of traffic control operations. Demand for digital transport services continues to grow steadily, indicating increasing importance of up-to-date traffic information for people and the entire transport system.

The Future of e-Navigation Is Taking Shape – You're Invited to Be Part of the Conversation!

26.8.2026
After three years of piloting digital maritime services in the Baltic Sea region, the MaDaMe project is hosting its final seminar, "Shaping the Future of e-Navigation".

Half of drivers exceed the speed limit on Finland’s main roads

7.8.2026
According to Fintraffic’s traffic data, approximately half of drivers on Finland’s main roads exceed the speed limit. Most drivers exceed the speed limit by only a small margin, but even minor speeding increases the risk of a serious traffic accident.

Track work has impact on the punctuality of train traffic – A safe railway network requires continuous development

20.7.2026
In the second quarter of this year, extensive track work was apparent in the volumes of train traffic and the punctuality of passenger traffic. However, maintenance and development work on the railway network is a key part of ensuring safe and reliable rail traffic. Road traffic volumes remained stable on main roads, air traffic showed a slight positive trend, and Fintraffic’s digital services set a new record for visits in June.

Who decides on exceptional traffic arrangements – and why are airspace, sea areas or tunnels closed?

20.7.2026
Recently, Finns have encountered news about airspace restrictions, closures of sea areas, military exercises, tunnel closures due to maintenance work and other exceptional traffic arrangements more frequently than in the past. Many are wondering who decides on such restrictions, what the role of different authorities is and where to find up-to-date information. We collected answers to the most frequently asked questions.

The closures of the airspace of St. Petersburg have temporarily increased traffic in Finnish airspace. There has also been a slight increase in the number of overflights, and positive developments are observable in international traffic. The total volumes of road traffic early this year remained at the same level as in the previous year despite increased fuel prices. The total volume of train traffic increased moderately in both commuter and long-distance traffic.

Traffic’s Vessel Traffic Services prevented eight merchant shipping vessels from potentially running aground last year – rate of GNSS disruptions continued to be high
