Finnish businesses launch collaboration for exporting traffic data services
The Traffic Data Service Cluster, led by Fintraffic, was officially launched at the end of May. It includes several of Finland's top experts in the realm of traffic data services, who believe that in current times, collaboration brings better results when exporting internationally. Several doors have already been opened in Europe, but also in Asia, the Middle-East and in the United States, particularly with regards to participating in rail traffic and port digitalisation projects as well as smart road projects. Experience gained in the spring confirms that there is a demand for Finnish traffic data experts.
The first supplier for Digirail has been selected – Creating a foundation for the future of the entire railway system
The current system protecting the passage of trains is nearing the end of its life cycle, and the plan in the Digirail project is to renew the system on the entire Finnish railway network. Fintraffic Railway Ltd. and Siemens Mobility have signed contract on supplying a Centralised Safety System on Digirail’s first commercial track section on the Lielahti-Rauma/Pori track line. Thanks to the agreement, Digirail will now be moving towards concreteness.

The traffic data ecosystem is known both in Finland and at the EU level for its ambitious work to promote the digitalisation of traffic. In 2023, significant steps were taken in work on the ecosystem and the development of Fintraffic's digital services, progressing from conceptualisation to actual implementation. The company's digital services collected a total of approximately one million visits during the year.

Sitra’s first Most Interesting Data Economy Solutions in Finland list highlights the 24 most interesting data solutions from various industries and regions in Finland. The Port Activity application developed by Fintraffic and Satakunta University of Applied Sciences, as well as the rulebook work by Traffic Data Ecosystem, were both identified as successful examples of promoting data economy.
