One of the goals of the NELSON project is to enable interoperable maritime services that support safer navigation, more efficient traffic management and future-ready operations. S-100 services and Maritime Connectivity Platform (MCP) are key enablers in this context.

NELSON is a €15 million EU co-funded project that brought together 10 partners from Finland, Sweden and Spain. The project has had a somewhat eventful beginning: since September 2025, 14 milestones have been completed, and numerous events and info sessions have been held to inform and involve project stakeholders.

European Union Agency for Railways Report on Railway Safety: Safety on Finnish railways is top tier

The European Union Agency for Railways has published its 2024 report on railway safety and interoperability on the EU level. Figures shown in the report also demonstrate the safety of Finland’s railways, which is top tier on the European level.

Situation Coordinator service under the responsibility of Fintraffic Railway

One of Fintraffic’s basic tasks in rail traffic management is to ensure safe and smooth rail traffic on Finnish railways. The almost three-year-old Situation Coordinator service plays an important role in succeeding in this task. The service allows the railway network to deal with disruptions more quickly, safely and efficiently, as all essential information is transmitted from one party to another in a transparent manner. Since the beginning of 2024, the service has been produced under the partnership agreement between the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency and Fintraffic Railway. After graduation, straight to work: Fintraffic gets 20 new rail traffic controllers

Twenty new rail traffic controllers graduated at Fintraffic this summer. Each of them has undergone a training period of about six months, including an induction period, a theoretical learning period, a simulation phase and a job orientation phase.
