Have you considered purchasing an electric car, but so far you have had difficulty finding information on charging points near you? The electric car charging points available in Finland are now shown in the Traffic Situation service and mobile app provided by Traffic Management Finland.
“We are delighted that our service now enables us to show the location of electric car charging points around Finland. This is made possible by Sähköautoilijat ry and their latauskartta.fi service, with its crowdsourced maintenance, which gives us access to the data we need. But most of all, we would like to thank all the active volunteers, who participate in keeping the information provided in the service up to date,” Traffic Management Finland’s Development Manager Mika Ahvenainen says.
“Electric cars are rapidly becoming more popular. Next year, the sales of electric cars will be boosted by the upcoming changes to the payment of tax on electric company cars. We have been actively seeking new channels for increasing people’s awareness about the use of electric cars, so we think it is great that information on electric car charging points can be provided comprehensively through Traffic Management Finland. This is an important step towards improving the usability and popularity of electric cars,” says Kirsi Immonen at Sähköautoilijat ry.
According to the e-transport sector statistics maintained by Teknologiateollisuus ry, the electric car fleet has grown by 91% in the past year, totalling close to 48,000 at the end of the third quarter. Of the total fleet, 40,000 are rechargeable hybrids and just under 8,000 are all-electric cars.
Services to boost the demand for alternative fuel cars
Traffic Management Finland seeks to actively promote the efforts to reduce emissions from transport. With the help of map services, we can show road users that the distribution networks for low-emission alternatives are already quite comprehensive.
“Our traffic vision for 2030 is that the transport of people and goods will be safer, smoother and more environmentally friendly. The use of low-emission energy sources has increased significantly and Finland is well on its way to achieving its net-zero emission target for transport. Open access to data on electric car charging points will further accelerate the achievement of this target,” says Chief Impact Office Mikko Saariaho.
The refuelling points for gas cars were already previously shown in the Traffic Situation service.
