Fintraffic will organise a second Smart Rail Traffic workshop on 13 December 2023. It will bring actors interested in rail traffic together to create a data ecosystem. The first workshop identified problems related to data and communication that we want to tackle together. The next workshop will plan how to promote solutions in practice.
Fintraffic will organise a second rail traffic workshop under the umbrella of the Traffic Data Ecosystem on 13 December 2023. The first workshop was held on 1 November 2023.
“Through these workshops, we want to promote cooperation between actors interested in rail traffic and identification of common challenges and solutions related to data and communication, and to crystallise the most suitable way of joint development after the workshops,” says Heidi Saarinen, Director of Ecosystem Services for Traffic Management at Fintraffic.
“We want to promote smart traffic, smooth mobility and transport, and the development and utilisation of data and digital services,” Saarinen continues.
Major potential in better use of data
At its best, the first workshop had over 40 participants from 17 different organisations. The participants had expertise in technology, railway environment and traffic as well as data.
The workshop included group assignments to form a common view of the current challenges and opportunities. Together, the participants identified problems that could be solved in cooperation with each other. At the same time, they also considered what kind of impact could be achieved by solving problems and whether the problems are worth solving.
“The participants identified a wide range of current challenges related to information sharing, data sources, operative railway activities and systems architecture,” says Ida Jokela, Head of Customer Experience at Fintraffic Railway.
“We see huge potential in better utilisation of data and information between different actors. Only some of the potential is in use at the moment.”
“Based on the discussions we had in the workshop, there is a clear need for regular cooperation related to rail traffic data, information and service development. We need to discuss several different themes, from different perspectives. We have a good foundation for clarifying matters in the second workshop,” says Heidi Saarinen.
The second workshop seeks solutions and plans future cooperation
Promotion of smart rail traffic will continue in the second workshop, which will plan practical solutions to the challenges identified in the first workshop. Participants will also consider the objectives of rail traffic ecosystem cooperation and suitable ways to collaborate.
The workshop will be held in Teams on 13 December 2023 from 13:00 to 15:00.
You do not need to register for the workshops in advance. An invitation link is enough. You can find more information and download the meeting links in your calendar on the Fintraffic website:
