Härmän Liikenne deploys bus stop displays: “A perfect way to serve customers”

Härmän Liikenne aims for the best customer service in the region. As part of this effort, the 60-year-old bus company, with a fleet of over 100 buses, uses bus stop displays of the matka.fi service for impactful service.

Härmän Liikenne is constantly innovating on how to better service public and private clients.

We maintain our high quality and equipment – keeping up with developments is crucial. Creating bus stop displays was surprisingly easy. It was immediately clear that they should be part of our service portfolio,” says Härmän Liikenne Chief of Development Jukka Sarho.

Bus stop data created by Sarho can be seen in the lobby of the brand-new Seinäjoki train station.  Sarho presented the use of bus stop displays for the City of Seinäjoki Advisory Committee on Local Transport. The city installed the displays and Sarho took over their updating duties.

“Personalisation was simple via the travel monitor connection. Being familiar with our lines, displaying the correct lines took just a few clicks, followed by minor adjustments to the premade texts,” Sarho describes.

Sarho encourages other transport operators to leverage bus stop displays.

“Presenting information in this format is an excellent way to serve customers. It is advisable to utilise data compliant with the GTFS standard*. Getting the basics right takes just a few minutes.”

“Availability is always a consideration”

Bus stop displays should be deployed in places where many passengers require information on connections, such as schools, health care centres, sports centres and culture facilities.

Härmän Liikenne is planning to expand the deployment of displays to other public spaces where screens are already available.

“More comprehensive information means more passengers. Availability is always a consideration,” Sarho summarises.

Instructions on the deployment of bus stop displays is available here.

*What is the GTFS standard?

GTFS (General Transit Feed Specification) is an open standard used to disseminate important information on transport systems to drivers. With GTFS, public transport operators are able to publish their traffic information in a format that is compatible with a large number of software applications. The GTFS data format is used by thousands of public transport providers. Learn more here.

Härmän Liikenne Chief of Development Jukka Sarho edited the bus stop display titles to show the point of departure and destination. In addition, he introduced an ad banner to the bottom of the screen.
