Fintraffic promotes the export of traffic sector services – new business opportunities available

Fintraffic will establish a traffic data export cluster with more than 10 key companies in the traffic and logistics sector. The companies act as the traffic data ecosystem’s export working group in the promotion of member companies and, more broadly, the export business in the traffic sector. The aim of the cluster is to make the resource-wise traffic data services developed in Finland widely used in Europe in the coming years. At the same time, business opportunities are created for companies in the sector.

A key objective of the cluster is to develop commercial services related to traffic data and platforms and to promote their export. The aim is to identify export opportunities and prepare joint offerings and joint sales and marketing measures. The export group is coordinated by Fintraffic, which provides open traffic data and platforms for the traffic sector in Finland. Fintraffic also promotes the interoperability of traffic data by coordinating the operation of the data ecosystem. Fintraffic’s distribution channel for open traffic data is Digitraffic, traffic service catalogue is FiNAP, and public transport service platform is Digitransit.

"We are excited for the opportunity to promote the export of Finnish traffic and logistics services with our partners. Providing services to international markets creates new business opportunities, but also helps different actors to develop better services in the domestic market as well. In the development of services, co-development and the interoperability of data generated in different parts of the service chain is particularly emphasised. This is another step towards closer cooperation in the Finnish traffic and logistics sector,” says Janne Lautanala, Chief Ecosystem and Technology Officer at Fintraffic.

Business Finland has made a positive decision on ecosystem funding to launch the operations of the traffic data export cluster for 2023–2025. The funding is used for establishing the cluster’s activities and project management, for defining the cluster’s activities and services and for target market analysis.

More information on Fintraffic’s data ecosystem is available on the website (https://www.fintraffic.fi/en/trafficecosystem). The website also has information on the data ecosystem rulebook, which forms the basis for the activities of different parties in the ecosystem.

What is this about:

  • Mission: increasing the export activities of traffic sector companies’ digital data services/platforms while strengthening Finland’s pioneering role in utilising digitalisation and promoting sustainable development.
  • Vision: the resource-wise traffic data services developed in Finland will be widely used in Europe in 2026, and they offer business opportunities for companies in the sector.
  • Why: the cluster enables larger export projects that individual companies cannot manage alone and that utilise Fintraffic’s high-quality platforms and materials.
