2025 brought a number of transport-related challenges, including unpredictable geopolitical turmoil, quickly shifting weather conditions and numerous disruptions. These circumstances emphasise the key task of Fintraffic – ensuring safe, smooth and reliable flow of traffic across all modes of transport. The reliability and quality of traffic control services critical to the functioning of Finland’s transport system – on land, at sea and in the air – remained high throughout the year. In addition to its special mandate, Fintraffic consolidated its position as a hub for traffic data, thereby promoting safe and smooth journeys and transport operations, as well as business activity within the sector.
Key figures 2025:
- Fintraffic Group’s revenue totalled EUR 267.7 (253.6) million.
- The result for the financial year was EUR 18.1 (15.1) million.
- Between 2023 and 2025, Fintraffic’s operations achieved cumulative efficiency gains of EUR 24 million through increased automation, the reorganisation of traffic control operations, efficient asset lifecycle management and cost-effective procurement.
- Investments totalled EUR 45.1 (54.0) million.
- Fintraffic employed an average of 1,193 (1,198) professionals in 2025.
“Through our services, we continuously contributed to road safety, traffic flow and the environment, and we supported the work of the authorities by, among other things, providing a live situational picture of the transport system at all times.” In 2025, the operational reliability of our traffic control services remained at a high level, even though the effects of Russia’s war of aggression continued to be felt in our operations. As in previous years, the sanctions in place restricted the growth in traffic volumes, particularly in air navigation services. “Finland was also targeted by GNSS jamming, which affected the operational environment for air navigation services and vessel traffic services,” says Fintraffic’s CEO Pia Julin.
Fintraffic’s services and open data have an extensive impact on the functionality and safety of the traffic system, the accessibility of Finland and its different regions, the daily lives of households, the operations of companies, and the Finnish society as a whole.
This is how we made a difference in Finland in 2025, together with our partners:
- Air navigation services: Air traffic in Finland runs on time, and its airspace is highly efficient by European standards. Air navigation services were provided for a total of 240,000 flights. Thanks to delay prevention in Finnish airspace, over 400,000 flight minutes were saved and CO2 emissions were reduced by about 70,000 tonnes. The efficient airspace generated direct benefits of over EUR 40 million for airlines operating in Finland compared with the European average.
- Rail traffic management: In the rail sector, we were responsible for the safe and smooth passage of more than 580,000 trains. The punctuality of trains improved by 5.1 percentage points from the previous year, reaching nearly 93 per cent. At the same time, the safety of train traffic for passengers ranked first in an EU comparison (1 out of 29).
- Vessel traffic services: For merchant shipping, we proactively intervened in the passage of vessels approximately 18,000 times, ensuring the safe and smooth passage of both cargo and passenger ships and tankers. We intervened in eight cases with potential for grounding during the year. At the same time, we enhanced the safety of shipping by assessing the additional requirements for safety zones for special cargo vessels, such as LNG and LPG tankers, along the Finnish coast, and we developed a situational picture service to support the control of merchant shipping in the event of satellite positioning disruptions.
- Road traffic management: Road traffic was smooth, with no wide-ranging disruptions. In road traffic management, data flows were refined from data collected in cooperation with partners from approximately 20,000 traffic management and road and weather devices. Information on weather and road conditions and disruptions was shared among various authorities, such as the police and rescue services, and between road traffic centres. Real-time road weather data was widely used in road maintenance, in which the importance of road weather information was emphasised especially during the winter season. Road weather and condition data was shared to road users via radio bulletins and direct feed to satellite navigation systems. Road traffic management sent a total of 11,000 road traffic bulletins and received 100,000 customer calls.
- Digital ecosystem services: Digital services, such as the Fintraffic App, Traffic Situation, Feedback Channel and other information services, supported the collection of data and the live traffic situational picture. A total of 5.6 billion queries were made in the traffic data APIs provided by the Digitraffic service. Seventeen interface queries were made to the Digitransit database used by public transport route planners. The number of visits to Fintraffic’s digital services increased by nearly 50 per cent over the course of the year, and downloads of the Fintraffic Mobile app doubled compared to the previous year.
